Kanavu is more than a running event. It is an Inspirational Marathon Story from India built around fitness, rural participation, education and community pride. On 6 September 2026, Annamalaikottai near Sivagiri, Erode, will welcome runners, families and supporters for a celebration that transforms a village into a sporting festival.
A Mission Beyond Running
Kanavu’s mission is to make organised fitness accessible beyond cities. Children, families, first-time runners and experienced athletes can all participate together.
Its vision is to prove that villages can host large, professionally organised events while promoting health, education and local culture.
This village run Tamil Nadu experience gives rural communities an opportunity to participate in something usually associated with major cities.
A Two-Day Village Festival
The celebration begins on Saturday evening with cultural performances, dance, Parai music and motivational stories. Food and accommodation facilities also help participants coming from different places enjoy the event comfortably.
On Sunday, the run takes place from 5:00 AM to 10:30 AM with:
- 1.5 km – Beginners and young participants
- 3 km – Casual runners
- 5 km – Fitness enthusiasts
- 10 km – Experienced runners
- Support facilities – Hydration stations, medical assistance, route guidance and volunteers
With previous editions attracting an overall crowd of around 20,000 people, Kanavu has become a rural sports event India can proudly recognise.
